Diving in Curacao

There were a total of 21 of us that made the most wonderful trip to Curacao this July.  Upon arrival I discovered that the Sunset Water Resort was by far (in my opinion) the most accommodating resort that I have ever stayed at.  Even though our flight was late (by several hours), the manager (Jim Hunter) and his staff met us with smiling faces and people ready to carry our luggage to our rooms.  We then met in the restaurant where we were shown to our reserved table.  Jim (the manager) was waiting for us there, where he gave us a full introduction to the resort.  There was a table reserved for us at every meal.  The meals were extremely varied from day to day.  The majority of the time we ordered from a menu prepared for that day.

Also meeting us upon our arrival, was a representative (Kevin) from the Sunset Divers.  This was the local dive operation we chose for our diving.  Kevin gave us a full introduction to the diving and what Sunset divers was going to do for us.  Kevin and Jim then stayed and socialized with us after our meal.

Sunset Divers did almost everything for us.  They prepared our gear and had it on the boat, ready to go each morning.  At the end of the day the broke down the gear and rinsed it in fresh water.  They also stored our gear at the shop so there was no carrying back and forth to the resort.  The diving was also very nice. We dived several reef formations.  The mushroom forest was by far the most interesting formation.  Diving in the forest was like wondering through a tree forest on foot.  It would have been very easy to get lost here.  The marine life was abundant and very interesting.  Everything was seen from Sea Horses to Eagle Rays.  Spotted eels were everywhere.  We saw some of the largest Spotted Drum that I have ever seen.   Andy Disher and I saw a Coronet Fish that had to be over 6 feet long.

In my opinion this is truly a place worth revisiting.  Kudos to Melissa for setting up the trip.
