What is required to get certified?
To become a certified diver, the three following training elements must be successfully completed:
1) Academic diving knowledge development - In this phase of your training, you will study your Open Water text book to learn about scuba diving subjects including: The Diving Environment, Equipment, Diving Physiology, Dive Planning and more. During classroom sessions, your Scuba Instructor will review and elaborate on the subjects that you have studied.
2) Confined Water Training - This is where your Scuba Instructor will teach you how to assemble your equipment, enter and exit the water, and all the basic skills of diving. We use the Texas Tech Aquatic Center pool for this training which is a warm 80oF year round. This phase of your training will provide you with plenty of fun and excitement!
3) Open Water Training - This is where your diving adventures begin! You will go on four dives under the supervision of your Scuba Instructor at Balmorhea State Park. Much of your time on t
hese dives will be spent exploring the beautiful underwater world of San Solomon Springs and you will demonstrate your mastery of the basic diving skills you were taught in confined water training. This will be the experience of a lifetime and is the gateway to a lifetime of underwater exploration. Upon completion of your Open Water Training, you will be CERTIFIED!
